European countries are considering the deployment of up to 30,000 peacekeepers in the central regions of Ukraine, particularly in Dnipro, Poltava and Kryvyi Rih. The peacekeeping contingent is supposed to protect critical infrastructure.

The Telegraph reports that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer plans to present the plan to US President Donald Trump next week.

The Kremlin is sounding the alarm

Moscow has reacted sharply to the possibility of NATO troops being deployed to Ukraine. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that these reports are of “serious concern” to Russia.

“We are closely monitoring all the reports and contradictory statements made by the Europeans. This raises our concern, because it is about the potential deployment of NATO troops to Ukraine,” Peskov said.

According to him, the presence of NATO peacekeeping forces in Ukraine “takes on a completely different meaning in terms of security for Russia”. He also recalled the position of the Russian Foreign Ministry that such a deployment “cannot be acceptable”.

What does the deployment of peacekeepers mean?

The format of the possible mission has not yet been disclosed, but sources suggest that it will be a non-combatant contingent that will be exclusively engaged in the protection of infrastructure facilities.

There has been no official confirmation of this initiative from London or Washington. At the same time, experts say that the involvement of international peacekeepers could significantly change the dynamics of the war, limiting Russia’s ability to continue its aggression.
