This morning, a powerful explosion occurred in the Mariachof district of The Hague, causing a partial collapse of a residential building and a large-scale fire. The incident occurred at around 6:15 local time. According to eyewitnesses, the sound of the explosion was extremely loud, and the fire instantly engulfed the building. This was reported by Time Ukraine Israel, citing Israelinfo.
The extent of the damage and rescue operations
There may be residents of the destroyed apartments under the rubble, but there is little chance of finding them alive. This was stated by the mayor of The Hague:
“We don’t know the exact number of people who could have stayed in the building, but the reality is that the likelihood of rescue is decreasing with each passing hour.”
Rescue operations continue even after sunset. Excavators, specialised rescue teams and dogs trained to search for people under the rubble are working at the scene.
The explosion caused significant damage not only to the building, but also to neighbouring houses: windows were smashed, debris was scattered on the streets, and thick smoke covered the area. Residents of nearby houses were urged to keep their windows closed and turn off their ventilation systems.
Eyewitnesses about the tragedy
Adam Mueller, 14, a resident of the area, said:
“I woke up to a loud explosion. When I looked out of the window, I saw the house in flames. It was a real shock.”
A local resident heard cries for help immediately after the explosion.
“They were children’s voices begging for help while the building was on fire,” he told NOS.
The cause of the explosion remains unknown
Police in The Hague have launched an investigation, but there are no official versions yet. The mayor of the city stressed that it would take time to find out the causes of the explosion.
According to local media, the explosion completely destroyed five apartments. Fire brigades are making every effort to eliminate the consequences, but the situation remains difficult.
Reaction of the national leadership
King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands and Queen Maxima expressed their condolences:
“Our thoughts are with all those affected by this tragedy and with those who are worried about their loved ones.”
This tragedy reminds us once again of the fragility of human life and the importance of unity in the most difficult moments. Rescue services continue to deal with the aftermath of the disaster, hoping for a miracle.
