On 24 January 2025, Russian Internet users encountered problems with popular services and telecom operators. The outages affected subscribers of MegaFon, Beeline, MTS, Tele2 and Yota, as well as the country’s largest provider, Rostelecom. In addition, users report the inability to download media files and delays in receiving messages on Telegram, WhatsApp and Viber messengers.
Access to the online platforms Steam and Twitch has also been interrupted, and VTB and T-Bank banking applications are not opening.
Causes and consequences of failures
This is the third time in the last three weeks that Runet has experienced large-scale disruptions. Earlier, on 6 January, Roskomnadzor reported that access to online games, social networks and banking applications was restricted due to an accident on the backbone network of one of the telecom operators.
Problems with access to services and communication continue to affect users, creating difficulties in work and communication.
