On Monday, French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin announced the arrest of a far-left activist suspected of involvement in the sabotage of France’s high-speed rail network last Friday, Reuters reported. It is the first publicly announced arrest since the attack, which happened just hours before the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games.

Thanks to the quick work of railway services, all trains on high-speed lines in France returned to normal operation on Monday morning, assured the acting minister of transport, Patrice Vergriet, AFP and Agerpres reported.

“This morning, all trains are running on schedule: on the eastern line, this became possible since Saturday, on the Atlantic line, the situation normalized yesterday, and on the northern line, three out of four trains were running yesterday, today everything is working as usual,” the minister told RTL .

The sabotage that paralyzed the TGV railway network happened on Friday morning. More than 800,000 passengers were affected by the attack.

SNCF said it was the victim of multiple simultaneous attacks targeting the Atlantic, Nord and Orient high-speed lines. The report also noted that “arson fires” were set to damage the equipment.

The investigation is ongoing, and law enforcement officers are working to establish all the details and possible accomplices of the crime.
