Fire at a Turkish ski resort: 78 dead, 51 injured

A tragic fire broke out in the Turkish ski resort of Kartalkaya, killing 78 people and injuring 51 others. This was announced by Turkish Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc, TRT Haber reports .

Ten of the injured remain in treatment, while 12 people, including the hotel owner, manager and staff, have been detained in connection with the tragedy.

“A detailed investigation is underway. We already have some evidence, and all the camera footage and documents have been seized for examination,” said Tunç.

The fire occurred on the night of 21 January, when 238 guests and employees were staying at the hotel. Initially, 10 deaths were reported, but later the number of victims rose sharply.

This tragedy has become the largest number of victims in Turkey in recent years. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, and the Turkish authorities promise to bring those responsible to justice.
