French President Emmanuel Macron has revealed details of a joint Franco-British plan to resolve the situation in Ukraine, which includes a temporary ceasefire for a month and the potential deployment of European troops.
The main provisions of the plan:
- A measurable 30-day ceasefire on air, sea and energy infrastructure.
- No troops on Ukrainian soil in the coming weeks.
- If the ceasefire is upheld, negotiations will begin on the further deployment of the contingent.
“We know how to measure compliance with the ceasefire. The frontline today is the equivalent of the distance between Paris and Budapest. It is very difficult to control the silence on such a front line, but in the air and on the seas, it is real,” Macron explained in an interview with Le Figaro.
Europe is not waiting for the US
Macron also stressed that he did not believe in peace talks between Russia and the United States without Ukraine. According to him, Putin will use any agreement to humiliate Kyiv and demilitarise it.
Restarting diplomacy
The French president said he had spoken to Donald Trump three times in the last three days to influence his position on Ukraine.
“We want peace, but not at any cost and without guarantees,” Macron said.
