The Israeli government has come under unprecedented criticism from its key allies, France, the United Kingdom and Canada. In a joint statement by the three powers, the leaders condemned the expansion of the military operation in Gaza and the restriction of access to vital aid.

“We strongly oppose the expansion of Israeli military operations. The level of human suffering in Gaza is unbearable,” the statement said, as quoted by Ukrinform, citing international correspondents.

“Food restrictions are unacceptable”

Western leaders have stressed that the supply of only basic food to the enclave is “completely inadequate”.

“We call on the Government of Israel to immediately cease hostilities and restore unimpeded humanitarian access to Gaza.”

“Disproportionate escalation”

The signatories of the statement recalled that they supported Israel’s right to defend itself against terrorism, but called the new phase of the offensive “disproportionate” and warned of possible consequences:

“We will not stand idly by while the Netanyahu government takes these outrageous actions. If the restrictions are not lifted, we will take concrete steps in response.”

Canada, the UK and France have underlined their intention to work with all parties to reach a political solution for Gaza’s future. This is not only about ending the violence, but also about a lasting model of security and stability in the region.
