Commanders of Georgian units that are part of the Military Committee of the Caucasus Union and are taking part in hostilities in Ukraine have decided to return to Georgia. The purpose of this step is to support the ongoing protests in the country and to protect the citizens involved. This was reported by Time Ukraine Israel, citing Ostro.

The statement, posted on the official page of the Military Committee on the social network X, notes that the commanders are ready to act immediately as soon as they receive the appropriate signal from the President of Georgia. “We are ready to defend the Georgian people by all means possible,” the text reads.

The Committee has previously issued a statement emphasising support for freedom and solidarity among the Caucasian peoples. The statement stressed that “the Caucasian units fighting for freedom in Ukraine – Chechens, Dagestanis, Ingush – stand alongside Georgia”.

Background to the decision

The protests in Georgia, which erupted against the backdrop of internal political controversies and growing tensions between the government and the opposition, forced the Georgian military abroad to reconsider their priorities. Commanders consider it their duty to support national interests and protect the country’s citizens from any possible threats.

At the same time, the participation of Georgian units in the war for Ukraine’s freedom remains an important symbol of international solidarity. Their decision to return to Georgia not only demonstrates their loyalty to their own people, but also underlines the unity of the peoples of the Caucasus in the struggle for freedom and justice.

This situation has attracted the attention of both the Georgian public and the international community. It remains to be seen what further actions the Georgian leadership will take and how this tense situation will develop.
