Berlin confirmed: Germany does not intend to resume purchases of Russian gas and will continue to support EU sanctions against Russia. This was stated by representatives of the German government during a briefing.
“The sanctions are justified and effective. They will remain in place until Russia stops the war,” said Deputy Government Spokesperson Christiane Hoffmann.
The representative of the Ministry of Economy, Anika Einhorn, also rejected the possibility of returning to purchases of Russian gas, in particular through the Nord Stream pipeline. She stressed that Germany’s energy independence is a “great value” and the country is not going to become dependent on Russia again.
In response to reports of alleged US-Russian gas talks, Einhorn said that the German government was not involved and had nothing to do with them.
Earlier, Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry called on European politicians not to risk the continent’s security by supporting the restoration of Russian gas pipelines.
