Hong Kong universities have expressed their readiness to accept foreign students who will not be able to start or continue their studies at Harvard due to the decision of the Donald Trump administration. This was reported by France 24.

The Trump administration announced the cancellation of Harvard’s right to accept students from abroad, accusing the university of condoning anti-Semitism and links to the Chinese Communist Party. This move caused a wide response in the international academic community.

In response to the situation, Hong Kong’s Secretary for Education, Christine Choi, called on all universities in the region to help the affected students:

“For international students affected by the US policy, the Education Bureau has asked all Hong Kong universities to provide simplified admission for those who qualify.”

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has already invited students who have been admitted to Harvard or have received offers from Harvard to continue their studies at HKUST.

Meanwhile, Harvard University has announced that it has filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration’s actions. In a statement, university president Alan M. Garber said:

“International students and researchers are an integral part of our community. We stand with you.”

Harvard accuses the US government of trying to restrict academic freedom and independence of the educational process. According to News.ro, a US court has temporarily blocked the decision, but the final fate of the foreign students remains uncertain.
