Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said that the comments made by European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell do not deserve serious attention. According to the prime minister, these statements are temporary and should not be given any importance. He is convinced that after the elections in Georgia and the end of the war in Ukraine, relations between Georgia and the EU will be revised. This was reported by Georgia online.

“These are temporary statements, so we should not attach much importance to them. The elections will be held, the war in Ukraine will end, and after that our relations with the EU will resume,” Garibashvili stressed. The prime minister also rejected the comparison of Georgia with Moldova, considering it unfair and incorrect.

According to Garibashvili, Georgia is superior to Moldova in all major indicators, such as democracy, human rights and the economy. “We have increased the difference in the economy between Georgia and Moldova by $9 billion, which confirms the strength of our state institutions,” he said.

The prime minister also emphasised the lack of political and media pluralism in Moldova. “In recent years, several political parties and media outlets have been banned in Moldova, leaving us with only two state-owned TV channels. When we are compared to a country where there are no democratic values, this is definitely disinformation,” he added.

Garibashvili reminded that Georgia had an authoritarian regime until 2012. “We have put an end to authoritarianism, and our population understands that such statements have no meaning, as they are based on false information,” the Prime Minister concluded.
