Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeed Irani, has called on the UN Security Council to immediately convene an emergency meeting to consider the US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. This was reported by Fox News with reference to an official letter from the Iranian diplomat.

Iran accuses the US of “unprovoked aggression”

In his letter to the Security Council, Iranian officials strongly condemned the US actions, calling them “unprovoked and deliberate acts of aggression” against a sovereign state.

“This is a blatant violation of international law, the UN Charter and generally accepted norms of international relations,” said the Iranian representative.

According to Iranian officials, the strikes targeted three key nuclear facilities, which he claims are not military targets.

Demand to hold the US accountable

The Iranian diplomat called on the UN Security Council to strongly condemn the US actions and take measures to bring Washington to justice:

“This act of aggression must not go unpunished. A response is required within the powers of the Security Council to protect international peace and security,” the statement reads.

What is known about the strikes

Earlier, it was reported that the United States had carried out air strikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities, which caused a wide response amid rising tensions in the region. Washington has not yet officially commented on the strikes, but the situation could quickly escalate into a global diplomatic crisis given the involvement of nuclear infrastructure.
