Israel has officially asked the United States to take part in a military operation against Iran to destroy its nuclear capabilities. According to Axios, citing Israeli sources, the key target of the operation is the Fordow underground uranium enrichment plant, one of the Islamic Republic’s most secure nuclear facilities.
According to the Israeli military, the successful destruction of the Ford complex requires the participation of strategic aviation and the use of powerful anti-bunker munitions, which the IDF does not have at its disposal. The only country that has such means is the United States.
Israel’s Ambassador to Washington, Yehiel Leiter, stressed that the effectiveness of the entire operation depends on the strike on Fordow. “Without US involvement, we cannot guarantee the destruction of the most dangerous part of Iran’s nuclear programme,” the diplomat stressed.
Despite this, the Donald Trump administration is currently publicly distancing itself from Israeli actions. However, according to Axios, following Trump’s recent phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the White House may consider limited US participation in a joint operation.
Meanwhile, the situation in the Middle East is rapidly deteriorating: Israeli air strikes on targets in Tehran continue, and Iran is launching missile attacks on Israeli cities.
