Israel’s military operation against Iran has led to the death of one of the Islamic Republic’s key military leaders, Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) General Hossein Salami. This was reported by several Iranian state news agencies on Friday morning, CNN reports.
According to Iranian sources, General Salami was killed as a result of a targeted nighttime air strike, which was part of a large-scale Israeli operation aimed at neutralising Tehran’s nuclear and military threats.
Salami was one of the most influential figures in Iran’s military and political leadership, heading the IRGC’s elite units responsible for foreign operations, countering Israel, and supporting proxy groups in the region. His death is one of the most severe blows to the Iranian command in recent years.
So far, the Iranian authorities have not released detailed information, but Tehran has already announced a “severe response” to Israel, which it promises to implement in the near future.
In turn, Israel claims that it is acting in self-defence and aims to prevent Iran from getting closer to building nuclear weapons.
