The lower house of the Italian parliament today finally approved a decree that allows the supply of military aid to Ukraine to continue until 31 December 2025. The decision was made by 192 MPs, while 41 MPs voted against. This was reported by ANSA.

Italy’s support since the beginning of the war
Since Russia’s full-scale invasion, Italy has repeatedly reaffirmed its support for Ukraine by providing military equipment, machinery and weapons. The adopted decree is a confirmation of Italy’s long-term solidarity with the Ukrainian people in their struggle for sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Political positions
The document was adopted after preliminary approval by the Senate. During the vote in parliament, the Italian opposition demonstrated a split:

  • “The centre-left Democratic Party (PD), as well as the centrist parties Italia Viva (IV) and Azione voted in favour.
  • “The 5-Star Movement (M5S) and the Alliance of the Greens and the Left (AVS) were against it.
