The Japanese government has announced the highest level of danger – the fourth – for travelling to Iran, amid the escalation of the situation in the region due to Israeli strikes. This was announced by Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwai at a press conference on 17 June.
“The situation is becoming more and more tense, so we urge Japanese citizens to leave Iran and refrain from any travel to the country,” said Iwai.
According to him, the Japanese authorities have already warned about 20 of their citizens in Tehran about safe places to evacuate. The government is also considering the possibility of organised evacuation of citizens from Iran and Israel, including with the support of third countries.
Abe called on Israel and Iran to exercise restraint and avoid actions that could lead to further escalation of the conflict. At the same time, no specific instructions were given to evacuate Japanese citizens from Israel.
