In her first major speech after leaving office, US Vice President Kamala Harris delivered a devastating critique of Donald Trump’s actions in the first 100 days of his new presidential term. From the rostrum in front of the Democrats in San Francisco, she accused the current administration of “a complete retreat from America’s highest ideals” and warned of an impending constitutional crisis. This was reported by The Guardian.

Harris called the chaotic start of Trump’s second presidency a deliberate strategy aimed at strengthening personal power through fear and disruption. She compared these actions to the implementation of the so-called Project 2025, a conservative political plan published by the Heritage Foundation that envisages radical government reform, the rollback of equality institutions, and the fight against liberal values.

“They hope that chaos will scare away the resistance. But they have forgotten that fear is not the only thing that is contagious. Courage is also contagious,” Harris said.

The politician called on Americans to organise, run for office and defend democratic institutions, stressing the importance of the resistance of judges, legislators, universities and ordinary citizens who oppose anti-democratic actions.

Although Harris has maintained a low public profile since her election defeat, her energetic speech in San Francisco may indicate plans to return to politics, either as governor of California in 2026 or as a potential presidential candidate in 2028.
