North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has said that the DPRK Navy is ready to demonstrate its defensive power in any waters where it is needed.

According to KCNA, Kim Jong-un inspected the construction of the DPRK’s first nuclear submarine and ordered the acceleration of the development of large warships to deter enemy forces.

Kim Jong-un’s key statements:

  • Equipping the fleet with nuclear weapons is a priority for strengthening the country’s defence.
  • The DPRK will not be a passive observer of enemy activity at sea.
  • The country’s Navy should become a powerful tool to counteract gunboat diplomacy.

South Korean analysts have pointed out that KCNA published a photo of the DPRK’s nuclear submarine for the first time, one of the new military systems, along with reconnaissance satellites and solid-fueled intercontinental ballistic missiles.
