King Charles III of the United Kingdom was hospitalised on Thursday morning due to side effects of cancer treatment, but has already returned to the Clarence House residence. Due to the monarch’s health condition, Buckingham Palace announced the cancellation of his official meetings on Friday, GB News reports.
“His Majesty has returned home and, on the recommendation of his doctors, has been forced to change his schedule of events. The King apologises to all those who may have been affected by this situation,” the palace said in an official statement.
Diagnosis and treatment
King Charles III, who is 76 years old, was diagnosed with cancer in February 2024. The royal family does not disclose what type of cancer it is, nor does it confirm whether the monarch is undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy.
Despite his illness, he tried to perform public duties and returned to official events two months after his diagnosis.
The royal family and health issues
The health of the British monarchy has become a central topic of discussion this year. In March, Princess Kate, the wife of Prince William, the heir to the British throne, announced her cancer diagnosis. She said that she was in remission, but, as in the case of the King, the details of the diagnosis remain confidential.
Given the state of health of Charles III and Princess Kate, British society is closely monitoring the situation in the royal family, and the media is speculating about potential changes in the leadership of the monarchy.
