The Kremlin announced on Thursday that Russia will consider any plans to establish a permanent presence of NATO warships in the Black Sea as a threat, citing the alliance’s involvement in the Ukraine conflict, Reuters

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia will take all necessary measures to ensure its security.

“Of course, the concentrated presence of NATO ships – we are particularly attentive to Bulgaria and Romania, littoral states that are members of the alliance (NATO) – this indeed represents, especially in the current situation, an additional threat to Russia. Naturally, Russia will take all necessary measures to ensure its security,” Peskov told reporters.

Separately, the Kremlin commented on Thursday on promises made by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to create “a true European Defense Union,” interpreting these statements as indicating Europe’s readiness for militarization and confrontation.
