Thousands of protesters in the United States are opposing Donald Trump’s policies and the military parade he has organised, which will take place on 14 June in Washington, D.C., the former president’s birthday. The actions covered more than 1,500 cities under the slogan “No Kings,”The Hill reports .
The organisers are trying to avoid clashes in the US capital, so they are not planning protests directly in Washington, where the parade will take place. Instead, residents are urged to join marches in Philadelphia, Virginia or Maryland.
“We don’t want Washington to become a magnet for confrontation,” the movement’s coordinators said.
An alternative event is planned for the residents of the capital – the “Day of Joy” in Anacostia Park with live music, barbecue and children’s entertainment.
Officially, the parade is dedicated to the 250th anniversary of the US Army, but critics call it a political show. The day before, Trump threatened protesters with “great force” if they tried to disrupt the event.
The “No Kings” movement is coordinated by a broad coalition of progressive groups and is a demonstration of resistance to authoritarian tendencies that participants say have intensified since Trump’s return to power.
