Lavrov speaks of a “multipolar world” and unique cooperation with China

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Moscow is moving towards a “multipolar world” and has an “unprecedented partnership” with China. Speaking in the State Duma on Wednesday, he also accused the West of trying to maintain global hegemony, The Guardian reports.

Russia against “Western domination”
According to Lavrov, the world is entering an era of new centres of influence, and the countries of the Global South are seeking to develop without “external pressure”.

Alliance with China and Asian countries
The Russian Foreign Minister said that relations with China “surpass the classic alliance models”, and Moscow is actively cooperating with Belarus, Iran, the DPRK and African countries.

Attacks on Ukraine
Lavrov continued his anti-Ukrainian rhetoric, again accusing Kyiv of “threatening Russian culture”. His statement came against the backdrop of the US-Russia war talks in Saudi Arabia.
