The UK and France have strongly rejected the ultimatum rhetoric of US Senator J.D. Vance, an ally of Donald Trump, who earlier called on Ukraine and Russia to “say yes” to peace. Officials from both countries emphasised: Ukraine has every right to continue its resistance, and any decisions should be made not under pressure from ultimatums, but on the basis of international law. This was reported by the Telegraph

The French representative noted that Europe’s position is “not outsourced” to the US – and that European demands are “very clear”: preservation of Ukraine’s sovereignty and restoration of justice.

The British diplomat stressed on condition of anonymity that “peace cannot mean concessions to the aggressor” and that London’s support for Ukraine would remain unchanged, regardless of changes in Washington.

In these circumstances, the EU is increasingly acting as an independent force that will not allow the US to impose a profitable “freeze” on the war on the Kremlin. For Kyiv, this is a strategic signal that not the entire Western coalition is moving towards a surrender peace.
