Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council and one of Vladimir Putin’s closest associates, called for caution in assessing Donald Trump’s policies. In a statement on Telegram, he hinted that the new US administration could exploit “strategic uncertainty” regarding Ukraine and international relations.
What is strategic uncertainty?
According to Medvedev, this tactic involves confusing opponents with contradictory statements. He directly accused Washington of deliberately creating chaos to confuse Russia, China and other states.
Quotes from Medvedev’s Telegram:
- “This is what the new US administration is doing with Ukraine.”
- “In general, it is useful to mislead your opponent. This has happened many times in the history of world diplomacy.”
- “However, it is important not to get confused yourself and not to deceive your own voters.”
What to expect from Trump?
Medvedev concluded that Russia will assess US policy only by real actions, not words. This is a hint of possible changes in relations between Washington and Moscow, which remain extremely tense after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
