Melania Trump said she will mostly live in the White House during her husband Donald Trump’s second term in office, she said in an interview on Fox News, a favourite among conservative US audiences, on Monday.
“I will be in the White House,” Melania emphasised. “But when it’s necessary to be in New York or Palm Beach, I’ll be there as well,” she added, referring to the couple’s residences in Trump Tower in Manhattan and Mar-a-Lago in Florida.
First term experience
During Donald Trump’s first term (2017-2021), Melania did not immediately move to Washington, staying in New York until the end of their son Barron’s school year, who was 11 years old at the time.
Despite this, her activity as First Lady was limited. She largely avoided public attention, including during Trump’s third presidential campaign in 2024 and the trials in the spring.
“Some people see me only as the president’s wife, but I am an independent person. I don’t always agree with what my husband says or does,” Melania said. “I give him advice, sometimes he listens, sometimes he doesn’t, and that’s okay.”
New plans of the First Lady
Melania Trump said that she plans to focus on her Be Best initiative aimed at improving the well-being of children. She stressed that this time she intends to pay more attention to this programme.
In addition, after the publication of her memoirs in October, Melania announced the release of a documentary about her life and return to the White House. She claims that the idea for the film was hers.
