Moscow has reacted sharply to French President Emmanuel Macron’s statement about the possible deployment of European peacekeeping forces in Ukraine after a potential peace settlement. The Kremlin called Macron’s words “confrontational” and said they were a “direct threat” to Russia.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov compared Macron to Hitler and Napoleon, accusing him of seeking war. Moscow also emphasised that it would not allow the presence of NATO troops in Ukraine and would regard them as directly involved in the conflict.
The Kremlin’s reaction demonstrates the growing tension between Russia and the West, while Macron calls for a broader strategic dialogue on Europe’s nuclear defence.
