The Alliance is taking over the responsibility for organising military assistance to Ukraine, which was previously provided by the United States. This was stated by the Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, Admiral Rob Bauer, during a meeting in Brussels on 16 January, Suspilne reports.
“Following the framework agreement reached in Washington, some of the mechanisms previously coordinated by the United States are now under NATO’s control. In particular, the SACU (Special Advisory Group on Ukraine) and the IDCC (International Coordination Centre) are now fully under the control of the Alliance. The United States supported this initiative,” Bauer said.
Stability and sustained assistance
The admiral stressed that the new mechanisms are aimed at ensuring stable support for Ukraine, regardless of political changes in NATO member states.
“For military leaders like General Syrsky, the war goes on without reference to what is happening in the White House or other capitals. The war will continue, and so continued assistance is critical,” said the Chairman of the Military Committee.
NATO’s priorities
Bauer stressed that the Alliance should provide Ukraine with all the necessary resources to continue its fight.
“As the Secretary General said, we must do everything to ensure that Ukraine is as strong as possible when the negotiations begin. Until then, our support must remain strong,” he concluded.
These changes are intended to strengthen the coordination of international assistance and provide Ukraine with more effective tools to repel aggression.
