According to the Pakistani military, its air defence system shot down five enemy aircraft during the large-scale attack. For its part, India confirmed that it had carried out “targeted strikes” on nine targets in Pakistan-controlled territory, claiming to have destroyed “terrorist camps”.
However, Pakistani Defence Minister Khawaja Asif rejected these allegations, stressing that Indian missiles had hit civilian targets. In particular, he said, a mosque in the city of Bahawalpur was destroyed. The attack killed a child and injured two other people.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said that India’s actions were an “act of war” and promised a “full and strong response”.
At the same time, the Indian police reported a Pakistani shelling in the border areas of Kashmir, during which two women were injured.
Analysts warn that the situation between the two nuclear powers is rapidly approaching a dangerous point, and each new attack could lead to an open military conflict.
