The US Department of Defence has categorically denied reports by some media outlets about a possible reduction in the US military contingent in South Korea. This was stated by Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell on his official page on the social network X (formerly Twitter).

“Anyone who covers the Pentagon knows that we are constantly assessing the presence of our forces in the world. However, the United States remains firmly committed to the Republic of Korea. Our alliance is unbreakable,” Parnell wrote.

He stressed that the information about the United States’ alleged intention to reduce the number of military personnel in Korea is not true.

Currently, there are about 28,500 US troops stationed in South Korea, which is one of the key elements of deterring North Korea and ensuring security in the region.

Earlier, the media speculated that the Donald Trump administration might initiate a military drawdown as part of a broader strategy of “realigning forces” abroad.
