Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz has signed an agreement for the purchase of more than 200 AGM-88G AARGM-ER self-guided anti-radar missiles. The contract, worth $745 million, will provide for the delivery of missiles in the period from 2029 to 2035. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of National Defence of Poland.
Technical characteristics and purpose
AGM-88G AARGM-ER (Advanced Anti-Radiation Guided Missiles – Extended Range) are designed to destroy enemy radar systems, including air defence and missile defence systems.
- Range: over 200 km.
- The main application is to provide air superiority, destroy ground targets and improve the safety of military aviation.
Strengthening Poland’s defence capabilities
The purchase is aimed at enhancing the operational capabilities of the Polish army, in particular the Air Force, which uses F-16 fighters and modern F-35s purchased from the United States.
Kosiniak-Kamysh commented.
“This agreement is a huge step forward in the development of the operational capabilities of the Polish Air Force. The AGM-88G AARGM-ER will allow us to effectively use our F-16 and F-35, ensuring a high level of safety and readiness for modern challenges,” the minister said.
The purchase of missiles confirms Poland’s intention to modernise its armed forces and respond to potential threats in the region.
