NASAMS air defence systems and modern F-35 fighter jets have been deployed in the Polish city of Rzeszów, where one of the key logistics centres for helping Ukraine is located. This was reported by the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces.
Strengthening the defences of the hub
The NASAMS systems were donated to Poland by Norway. Along with air defence and aviation assets, 100 Norwegian troops will arrive in Poland and be stationed in Rzeszów. They will ensure the security of the critical hub, which plays a key role in the delivery of aid to Ukraine.
Duration of NATO’s mission
The NATO mission in Poland will last until Easter, the headquarters confirmed. This decision was made within the framework of the Alliance’s collective security and against the backdrop of growing threats in the region due to Russia’s aggression.
NASAMS: reliable protection
NASAMS systems have already proven to be an effective short- and medium-range air defence capability. In addition to Poland and Ukraine, these systems are also used by Norway, the United States, Lithuania, Finland and the Netherlands.
“The deployment of NASAMS in Rzeszow underscores the seriousness of NATO’s approach to protecting its members and supporting Ukraine,” military experts say.
Ukraine, in turn, has also received NASAMS anti-aircraft systems from its partners, which are effectively used to protect its airspace from Russian attacks.
