Poland is investigating a possible leak in one of Europe’s most important pipelines, the Druzhba pipeline, which transports oil to Germany. This was reported by Time Ukraine Israel, citing Bloomberg.

Details of the incident

On Sunday, at around 7:30 am, Polish firefighters received information about a possible leak near the town of Pniewa in the west of the country. According to fire service spokesman Martin Galasz, rescuers promptly secured the area and notified representatives of the pipeline operator PERN SA. As it became known, the company’s specialists temporarily blocked the transportation of oil from east to west.

The Druzhba pipeline is an important piece of infrastructure that supplies refineries in the German cities of Loina and Schwedt. These refineries also receive oil through the port of Gdansk, located on the Baltic coast of Poland. In addition, the refinery in Schwedt purchases raw materials from Kazakhstan.

Operator response

At the time of publication, PERN SA had not released an official statement on the incident. The company’s spokeswoman, Eva Sohotska, refrained from commenting, not responding to phone inquiries on Sunday.

The Druzhba pipeline is one of the largest in the world, with a length of over 4,000 kilometres. It transports oil from Russia to a number of countries in Central and Western Europe. Given the current geopolitical situation, the pipeline is attracting considerable attention, and its stable operation is critical to the region’s energy security.

The investigation into the circumstances of the possible leak is ongoing. Representatives of the emergency services and the pipeline operator assured us that they are doing everything possible to ensure safety.
