Protests against Elon Musk spread around the world: activists call for boycott of Tesla

On Saturday, 30 March, thousands of demonstrators gathered outside Tesla showrooms in the US and dozens of other countries to protest against Elon Musk and his influence on public policy. This was reported by The Guardian.

What happened?
Around 200 protests swept across the world – from Australia and New Zealand to France, Germany, the UK and the US. Activists demanded to boycott Tesla, sell the company’s shares and support the Tesla Takedown campaign.

“By stopping Tesla, you stop Musk, ” the organisers say, accusing the billionaire of cutting social programmes and influencing US policy.

Why are they protesting?
Musk is the head of the Department of Government Effectiveness (DOGE), which cuts the budgets of federal agencies. This has led to massive layoffs in the National Park Service, Social Security and educational institutions.

How does Tesla react?
The company and Musk himself are keeping silent. Meanwhile, in California, New York, and Texas, demonstrators are blocking Tesla showrooms, and some activists are even attacking showrooms with graffiti and Molotov cocktails.
