Putin speaks out about Trump and oil

Russian President Vladimir Putin said during a briefing for state media that US leader Donald Trump, in addition to his intelligence, demonstrates a pragmatic approach to decision-making, reports. AFP.

“He is not only smart, but also pragmatic,” Putin said, commenting on Trump’s statements about the need to reduce oil prices to end the war in Ukraine.

Trump calls for lower oil prices

The day before, on Thursday, Donald Trump said that a decline in global oil prices could be the key to ending the Russian-Ukrainian war. However, Putin expressed confidence that Trump would not make decisions that could harm the US economy.

“The American economy is largely dependent on the oil and gas sector. It is unlikely that he (Trump) will make decisions that will harm his own country,” Putin added.

Oil as leverage

The oil issue continues to be an important factor in global geopolitics. Russia, which is one of the largest oil exporters, actively uses energy resources as an instrument of influence in the international arena.

At the same time, the United States, particularly under the Trump administration, has increased oil and gas production, making it a key player in the energy market. This explains the pragmatism that Putin spoke of, as any sharp price changes could have a serious impact on the US economy.

Putin’s statements about Trump have elicited different reactions. Some experts believe that Putin’s praise is an attempt to strengthen his own position amid geopolitical tensions. Others see it as part of an information campaign aimed at undermining confidence in American foreign policy.
