US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has strongly condemned Hamas’ activities, saying that if a similar group were operating on the US border with Mexico or Canada, it would be immediately destroyed. In an interview with Fox News, he stressed that Hamas is not a government or just an ideological movement, but “evil, violent people who terrorise civilians,” The Jerusalem Post reports.
The politician made the statement after the release of the bodies of four Israeli hostages, including a family held captive by terrorists. “This reminds us once again of who Hamas really is,” Rubio said, adding that the militants’ brutality leaves no chance for peace in Gaza as long as they remain there.
He also stressed that Hamas terrorists threaten not only Israel but also the Palestinians themselves, using civilians as human shields. “No country can coexist with a group that openly declares its intention to destroy its statehood,” the US Secretary of State said.
