Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov has arrived in Saudi Arabia ahead of talks between Russia and the US scheduled for next week, Reuters reports.
Siluanov spoke at a conference on emerging market economies organised by the Saudi Ministry of Finance and the International Monetary Fund.
Russia and the United States talks in Riyadh
According to sources, in the coming days, meetings will be held in Saudi Arabia between officials from Moscow and Washington to find ways to end the war in Ukraine, which has been going on for almost three years.
These talks were reported by a US congressman and a source familiar with the details of the meeting. So far, there have been no official comments from the US or Russian governments.
Saudi Arabia’s role in the peace process
Saudi Arabia has repeatedly expressed its readiness to mediate in international negotiations on Ukraine. Riyadh has already hosted a summit of security advisers dedicated to resolving the conflict.
The meeting between the US and Russia could be the first significant diplomatic dialogue on Ukraine after a long period of tension.
