Russian FSB experts have arrived in Belgrade to investigate allegations of the possible use of sonic weapons during the large-scale protests on 15 March. This was stated by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, AFP reports.

What happened?
Between 100,000 and 300,000 people took part in the anti-corruption protests organised by students. During the demonstration in several Belgrade districts, people suddenly started to run away because of an unexplained sound, which caused panic.

Photos of a police car with an unknown device on the hood were posted online. Experts suggested that it could be an LRAD 450, an American-made acoustic weapon used to disperse crowds.

What do the Serbian authorities and the FSB say?
Vucic called the allegations of the use of sonic weapons “lies” but invited the FSB to investigate. Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dačić confirmed that the police have such devices, but denied using them against protesters.

What’s next?
The FSB experts will work in Serbia for 7-8 days, after which they will present their findings on the possible use of acoustic weapons.
