During the debate before the second round of the presidential election, the candidate of the Socialist Party of Moldova, Alexandru Stoyanoglo, expressed his strong support for Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression. He stressed that, if elected president, he would do everything possible to strengthen relations with Kyiv. This was reported by TimeUkraineIsrael with reference to Censor.net.
Stoyanoglo, a former prosecutor general, said he was ready to develop constructive cooperation with Ukraine and provide humanitarian aid. According to him, if he wins, his presidential administration will provide comprehensive support to the Ukrainian side. “Our relations will only get stronger during my presidency. Now we hear only militaristic statements, but we are committed to real assistance to Ukraine,” Stoyanoglo said.
At the same time, the current president, Maia Sandu, questioned the sincerity of his words, noting that Ukrainian partners “know that you are a man of Moscow”. During the discussion, Stoianoglo tried to emphasise his commitment to Moldova’s European course, even offering to sign a legislative act that would fix the country’s European integration path as irreversible.
The first round of the presidential election in Moldova took place on 20 October, and incumbent President Maia Sandu and Alexandru Stoianoglo qualified for the second round.
