In Poland, the National Election Commission (PKW) has announced an emergency meeting to check errors in the vote count in the presidential election, which were found in a number of election protocols. This is an unprecedented step that raises doubts about the transparency of the electoral process, Polskie Radio reports, citing statements by officials.

“Suddenly it became clear that trust in the system was undermined. So the commission has to accept this challenge,” said Adam Bodnar, Minister of Justice of Poland. According to him, the participation of the Prosecutor General in the inspection is necessary.

The situation is causing concern in Polish society, which has traditionally had a high level of trust in the electoral system, which operates in a decentralised manner, with responsibility at the local level.

Errors in the vote count have already been identified in several regions. According to local media reports, members of district commissions made mistakes in the protocols, which casts doubt on the final results.

The Supreme Court of Poland has the final say on the legitimacy of the elections, which makes its decision based on the report of the National Election Commission and after analysing the complaints filed.

Such a test could be a test of strength for Polish democracy, both in the legal and social dimensions.
