US Republican Senator Marco Rubio has publicly denied information about Washington’s alleged plans to lift or ease sanctions against Russia. According to him, such rumours are nothing more than deliberate disinformation aimed at undermining support for Ukraine.

Marco Rubio (on Fox News):

“No one is planning to lift sanctions against Russia. These statements are part of the information war waged by the Kremlin to create the impression that the US is losing its resolve.”

Rubio, who is an influential member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, stressed that the United States remains committed to supporting Ukraine in its war against Russian aggression. He also stressed that sanctions remain an important tool to deter the Kremlin and send a message to other authoritarian regimes.

Rumours have recently been circulating on social media and in some media outlets about a possible “deal” between the US and Russia, which allegedly includes a partial lifting of sanctions in exchange for a ceasefire in Ukraine. The State Department and the White House have not confirmed this information.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry stated that it considers such fake news to be part of Russia’s hybrid warfare, which aims to sow distrust between Ukraine and its allies.
