Sergey Lavrov calls the creation of Israel a mistake in a press conference

Міністр закордонних справ Росії Сергій Лавров

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has outdone himself at a press conference by effectively calling the creation of the state of Israel a mistake. He described the Balfour Declaration, in which the British committed to facilitating the establishment of a Jewish state, as a “time bomb” in the Middle East.

Regarding Hezbollah, the minister stated that the group is “acting very restrained.” “Its leader Nasrallah made several public statements confirming this position. But there is a sense that they are being provoked into full-scale involvement. Analysts suggest that the aim of such provocation is to involve the US directly with its armed forces in this conflict. I hope that the West will do everything to ensure that such provocative thoughts (if they exist in the Israeli leadership) remain just thoughts, or better yet, are forgotten,” Lavrov said.

The minister also expressed support for the Houthis, who have completely disrupted shipping in the Red Sea, criticizing the US and the UK for sending their fleet there “instead of talking to Israel” to stop the war in Gaza.

Lavrov named Iran and “other Islamic countries” as Russia’s allies in the region.
