Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski has called for forcing Moscow, not Kyiv, to negotiate peace, as it is the Kremlin that does not show readiness for peace. Sikorski said this in an interview with DW on Monday, 16 December.
“The division of tasks should be such that both the United States and the European Union help Ukraine achieve a better negotiating position for potential future negotiations, which should be encouraged and forced on the aggressor, not the victim,” the Polish diplomat stressed.
Sikorski also stressed that the European Union needs to “mobilise even more” against the backdrop of a possible return to power of the Donald Trump administration in the United States. He warned that such a development could bring uncertainty to European-American cooperation in support of Ukraine.
The minister’s words reflect Europe’s concern about the need to consolidate efforts to continue to assist Ukraine and put pressure on Russia to ensure that Kyiv has a stronger position at the negotiating table.
