Algerian President Abdel-Majid Taboun made a controversial statement that attracted the attention of Arab networks and the world media. According to Ynet, Taboun called on the Egyptian authorities to allow the Algerian army to enter Gaza to build three hospitals. His words, which began with the phrase “I swear to you, no one will escape from this”, were perceived by many as a threat to Israel, causing a wide response in the region.

Reviews in Arabic networks

Tabun’s statement provoked active discussions on social media. Some users noted that the president had called on Egypt to open its borders to provide humanitarian aid to Gazans, while others interpreted his words as an intention to intervene in the military conflict. A-Sharq Al-Awast pointed to the strong reaction in Arab society, noting that Tabun’s remarks were interpreted ambiguously, with many seeing them as a call for military action against Israel.

Egyptian journalist Ahmed Moussa noted that Taboun was not talking about military intervention, but about opening the border between Egypt and Gaza to bring in medical workers to help the wounded. Instead, some commentators called on Arab countries to respond urgently to the humanitarian situation in the region.

Political context and implications

According to political scientist Dr Tarek Fahmi, Taboun’s statement is part of the broader context of the Algerian elections, where the Palestinian issue has a major impact on society. Fahmy stressed that Algeria’s attempt to play an active role in Gaza could face serious difficulties, in particular due to the lack of direct contacts with Israel.

Noha Baher, a colleague of Fahmy’s, believes that the president’s words were spontaneous and influenced by emotion. She added that, despite his good intentions, his calls to open Rafah crossing show a lack of understanding of the complex situation in the Gaza Strip, where Egypt is actually refusing to allow movement through the Israeli-controlled crossing.

The Algerian president’s speech provoked a variety of reactions in the Arab world and highlighted the complexity of the humanitarian situation in Gaza. This underscores the need for a balanced approach to resolving conflicts that affect the security and humanitarian needs of the population. At the same time, the question of how political statements can influence the elections in Algeria remains open and requires further analysis.
