Ukraine has launched the largest drone attack on the Russian capital since the start of the war, firing at least 32 drones at Moscow on Sunday. The attack diverted flights from three major Moscow airports and injured one person, Reuters reports.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said that Russian air defence forces had shot down all 32 drones in the Ramenskoye and Kolomenskoye districts of Moscow Region, as well as in the city of Domodedovo, home to one of the largest airports. “32 drones flying to Moscow have been destroyed,” he said. Despite the large scale of the attack, no serious damage was reported, although Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency noted that Domodedovo, Sheremetyevo and Zhukovsky airports were forced to divert flights.
Rosaviatsia has announced that airport operations have resumed. Moscow, with a population of over 21 million, is one of the largest metropolises in Europe. A similar attack on the Ramenskoye district took place in September, when Ukrainian drones attacked it using 20 drones.
Unconfirmed videos on Russian Telegram channels showed drones flying over Moscow. In addition, Russian officials reported drone attacks in other regions, including the Kaluga, Bryansk and Orel regions.
