The Signal scandal has nothing to do with it: the White House explains the resignation of National Security Adviser Waltz

US Vice President J.D. Vance said that the resignation of National Security Adviser Mike Waltz had nothing to do with the Signal messenger scandal. He said this in an interview with Fox News.

According to Vance, Waltz has the full confidence of both President Donald Trump and himself. “This is not an ouster, it’s a promotion. Waltz is being moved to a new role as the US Permanent Representative to the UN,” the vice president said.

He also criticised the hype surrounding reports of the scandal involving the addition of The Atlantic’s editor-in-chief to Signal’s chat room, calling it a “nothing-burger” – that is, not worth the attention it received.

“We invited Mike to carry out serious reforms in the National Security Council. He did that successfully. Now he can bring value to his new role,” Vance added. According to him, the Senate has already supported the new appointment.
