The US issues an ultimatum to Iran: Trump demands unconditional surrender

On Tuesday, 17 June, US President Donald Trump made an unprecedented statement regarding Iran, demanding Tehran’s “unconditional surrender” in the current armed conflict in the Middle East. The head of the White House published the statement on his social network Truth Social.

“Unconditional surrender!” Trump wrote in capital letters, emphasising Washington’s tough line in the face of the escalating situation around Iran.

This is the third public statement made by the US President on Iran this day. In previous reports, he said that US intelligence has accurate information about the whereabouts of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, but has no plans to eliminate him.

At the same time, Trump warned that the US would not allow attacks on civilians or the US military: “Our patience is running out.”

In addition, the US President announced full control over Iranian airspace, stressing that despite Iran’s powerful air defence systems, American weapons are superior.

Experts point out that such rhetorical pressure from Washington may indicate preparations for direct US participation in military operations against Iran on the side of Israel.
