The US administration has expressed dissatisfaction with Russia’s ultimatum position on peace talks. According to US Vice President J.D. Vance, the Kremlin has included in its demands territories that it does not even control. This was reported by Politico.

“Russia cannot expect to get territories that it hasn’t already seized. That’s one of the conditions they put forward in the original peace plan,” Vance told Fox News.

He also noted that although such “overstated demands” are a typical tactic in negotiations, the United States may lose confidence in Russia’s good faith. In this case, Vance said, Washington would leave the role of mediator.

At the moment, the Kremlin, in Washington’s view, believes it has the upper hand on the battlefield and is therefore not ready to compromise. This is increasingly irritating the White House, which had previously focused pressure on Ukraine.

On Thursday, President Donald Trump called for an unconditional 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine. He warned that if the ceasefire is not respected, the US and its allies will impose new sanctions. According to Trump, this ceasefire should be the first step towards a “sustainable peace agreement”.
