On Sunday, 22 December, a tragedy occurred in southwestern Turkey when an ambulance helicopter crashed into a hospital building and fell to the ground. Four people were killed in the incident, Reuters reports.
According to the Turkish Ministry of Health, the helicopter took off from the Mugla Teaching and Research Hospital. There were two pilots, a doctor and another medical worker on board.
The governor of the Mugla region, Idris Akbiyik, told reporters that the helicopter first crashed into the fourth floor of the hospital and then fell to the ground.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the hospital building or on the ground. The cause of the crash is currently under investigation, but it is known that at the time of the tragedy there was thick fog in the region, which may have made it difficult to control the aircraft.
The published footage from the scene shows the scattered wreckage of the helicopter near the hospital, as well as numerous ambulances and rescue teams working at the scene.
This incident came as a great shock to the local community, which expresses its condolences to the families of the deceased medical workers and pilots who died in the course of their noble mission.
