The United States is preparing for the presidential election on 5 November, with former Republican President Donald Trump and Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris holding their final meetings with voters in key states. This fierce struggle, the outcome of which remains unpredictable, is attracting worldwide attention, Reuters writes.
Donald Trump is seeking to return to the White House by escalating his rhetoric and making strong statements about the “occupation” of the US by illegal migrants, whom he promises to deport if he wins. This Saturday, he will speak in Virginia and North Carolina, focusing his speeches on migration and accusing the Biden administration of failing to address economic challenges.
Kamala Harris, who has a chance to become the first female president of the United States, is focusing on other key states, including Georgia and Michigan. She positions herself as an “antidote” to Trump’s policies and promises stability and a fair economic recovery. Vice presidential candidate Tim Walz expressed his support for her, calling Harris “a reliable choice for Americans”.
Recent polls show that the race between the candidates is extremely tight and political tensions continue to rise. Experts and the media are discussing the possible consequences of the post-election period on a daily basis, fearing possible outbreaks of violence.
On the night before the election, both candidates plan to wrap up their campaigns in key locations: Harris in Philadelphia and Trump in Grand Rapids, in an effort to secure support in crucial states.
