US President Donald Trump has announced serious progress in negotiations with Iran to curb Tehran’s nuclear programme. According to Reuters, Trump told reporters about this on Sunday at the Morristown Airport (New Jersey) before returning to Washington.
“I think we may have some good news on the Iranian front,” Trump said, commenting on the results of informal contacts held in Rome.
According to the president, the talks between US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and representatives of the Iranian delegation were “very good”. He also hinted that the outcome of the talks could be made public in the coming days, although he did not disclose any details.
“I don’t know if I’m going to tell you something good or bad over the next two days, but I have a feeling I’m going to have something good to say,” Trump added.
The Trump administration’s return to an active foreign policy, particularly in the context of the Iranian nuclear dossier, is attracting close attention from US allies and international observers. The possibility of a new deal or de-escalation in the Persian Gulf could have a significant impact on the situation in the Middle East.
